RAMALLAH – Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh recently received in his office in Ramallah Shaheed Bin Yusuf Stakala, a young South African man, who walked for 26 months all the way from Cape Town, in South Africa, to Jerusalem to pray at the Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.
During his meeting with Shtayyeh, Stakala expressed happiness for performing the five daily prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site in Jerusalem’s old city, and highly appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality he received in Palestine.
Stakala said he would complete on foot his journey to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage that takes the faithful along a path traversed by the Prophet Mohammed SAW some 1,400 years ago.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shtayyeh welcomed Stakala, saying that his journey to Palestine and Jerusalem had built a new bridge between South Africa and Palestine.
“God willing, we will invite you to visit Palestine through our airlines and airport, after ending the occupation and establishing our independent state,” the prime minister told Stakala.
Shtayyeh stressed that Stakala is a living witness to what he had seen on the way to Jerusalem, urging him to tell the people of his country and the countries he visited along the way about the sufferings of the Palestinian people.
