PAS, ABIM welcome Anwar's release
KOTA BHARU, May 16 (Bernama) -- PAS welcomed the release of jailed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and said it hoped that he would be able to contribute to national politics again.PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the party hoped that Anwar's release would also help ease the political situation in the country.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) president Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim welcomed Anwar's release and said it was the beginning of a transformation that would bring huge benefits for the country.
Anwar was given a full pardon and released today. He had been serving a five-year jail sentence following his conviction for sodomy.
After his release, Anwar told reporters his appeal for the pardon was on the basis of a 'miscarriage of justice' or 'travesty of justice' and this meant that his convictions and sentences had been erased from the records.
