SERIAN: Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot believes the 14th General Election (GE14) is just around the corner based on hints from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“The prime minister has hinted several times the election could be held earlier than expected, so let’s be ready,” he said after presenting grants to 13 Muslim organisations here recently.
The six-term Serian MP said he would defend the seat in the GE14 and hoped to win it with bigger majority.
“You want to know if I will defend the seat. The answer is ‘yes’. And, I am working on increasing my majority from the last one,” he said.
He said it was important that he achieve a bigger majority to reflect the constituents’ support for his leadership and the many projects he has brought to Serian as a minister.
“I cannot afford to fail to better my GE13 majority of more than 13,000 votes because if that happens it will not reflect well on the voters’ acceptance of not just my leadership on the ground, but the leadership of the prime minister and the ruling BN.”
He thus called on the Muslim community, whom he described as among his personal loyalists, to help strengthen the people’s support for the BN on the ground.
He distributed RM40,000 in ‘duit Raya’ to 13 Muslim organisations in the Serian parliamentary constituency in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.
